Head and Neck - Refresher 2022

This is a lecture-based educational format designed to update participants on the latest evidence-based practice recommendations for head and neck cancer radiation therapy. Scientific updates which inform practice as well as technological advances which are relevant to best outcomes for patients will be addressed. Participants will be offered opportunities for self-assessment to test their knowledge and will be equipped with guidance and references to address their gaps in knowledge or understanding.

Target Audience

The activity is designed to meet the interests of radiation oncologists and radiation oncology residents, physicists, radiation therapists and dosimetrists.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  • Select appropriate radiation dose and fractionation schedules for early and advanced-stage nasopharynx, oropharynx, larynx, and hypopharynx cancer patients.
  • Coordinate surgery timing and chemotherapy if needed into the management of oral cavity, larynx, and hypopharynx cancer patients who will require postoperative radiation therapy.
  • Carry out target delineation for intensity modulated radiation therapy planning according to standard international guidelines.
