Radiobiology - Molecular Profiles of Particular Cancer and Relationship to Therapy

In this course, we provide an overview of biomarker definitions and potential use in the management of cancer patients. We then describe the historical evolution of efforts by NRG Oncology to develop and validate tissue-based molecular biomarkers to direct management of GU cancers treated with radiation. Topical examples will be provided the punctuate these efforts to realize the goal of precision radiation medicine.

Target Audience

The activity is designed to meet the interests of practicing radiation oncologists, radiation oncology residents, medical and clinical physicists, nurses and all other health professionals involved in the field of radiation oncology.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to do the following:

  • Describe the different types of biomarkers and how they impact treatment of cancer patients.
  • Identify molecular biomarkers that are in development and those that are available as standard of care to help guide management of GU cancer patients treated with radiation therapy.
