Principles and Skills of Brachytherapy: Resident-Focused Essentials

Brachytherapy is an invaluable tool in the radiation oncologist's toolbox, but the perceived proficiency among residents has been variable and there is great diversity in how programs deliver brachytherapy. This session covers key procedural steps in performing endometrial and cervical brachytherapy, including applicator selection and placement techniques; the practical workflow for LDR and HDR prostate brachytherapy, including setup, patient positioning, and catheter or seed placement strategies; and practical tips and troubleshooting techniques for common technical challenges encountered during brachytherapy procedures.

Topics:

  1. Essentials of Endometrial Cancer Brachytherapy
Kristin Bradley, MD - University of Wisconsin, Madison
  2. Essentials of Cervical Cancer Brachytherapy
Allison Garda, MD - Mayo Clinic Rochester
  3. Essentials of an LDR Prostate Implant
Marisa Kollmeier, MD - Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
  4. Essentials of an HDR Prostate Implant
Mitchell Kamrava, MD, MS - Cedars Sinai Medical Center
