Pediatrics

Pediatric radiation oncology requires a thoughtful integration of multi-modality care considerations into the radiation treatment paradigm. While most cases will follow protocol scripted treatment guidelines, case specific considerations are sometimes required to address competing concerns related to the morbidity of combined modality care and achieving favorable disease control. Recent trials highlight the need to continue to refine the therapeutic ratio of radiotherapy for children and adolescents, although variable success has been encountered with both treatment intensification and de-escalation. We will review recent trials as they relate the current standard of care as well as clarify ongoing research questions which are currently being evaluated in ongoing studies.
