Esophagus and Gastric Cancer: Contemporary Treatment Approaches

This session will review current evidence based guidelines as well as the basis for guidelines pertaining to the treatment of esophageal and gastric cancer. Worldwide changes in epidemiology will be discussed. Current treatment strategies will be reviewed and compared. Contemporary techniques for use of radiation for esophageal and gastric cancer will be reviewed. Pertinent recent and ongoing clinical research will be highlighted.

Target Audience

This program is designed to meet the interest of radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, and radiation dosimetrists.

After this session, attendees should be able to:

  • Discuss current treatment strategies of esophageal cancer: adjuvant and neoadjuvant treatment and surgery, definitive chemoradiation.
  • Summarize the future of treatment: newer randomized trials, alternative treatment strategies and integration of novel agents with radiation therapy.
