Breast - Refresher 2020
This educational activity will focus on the radiation therapy treatment scenarios commonly faced in practice; i.e., breast radiation for early stage disease undergoing breast conservation and regional nodal irradiation for node positive breast cancer. Breast radiation following lumpectomy for ductal carcinoma in situ and early invasive breast cancer including whole breast irradiation; partial breast irradiation and observation, as well as the clinical trial data supporting treatment effectiveness, will be reviewed. This educational activity will also focus on the evidence, indications and methodology for regional nodal irradiation post mastectomy or lumpectomy in breast cancer patients with 1-3 axillary nodal metastasis in the setting of adjuvant systemic therapy. Regional nodal irradiation in the post neoadjuvant systemic therapy setting will be reviewed as well.

Target Audience
The activity is designed to meet the interests of radiation oncologists, physicists, nurses, radiation therapists, radiation dosimetrists and radiation oncology residents.
Learning Objectives
- Identify current acceptable radiation methods and suitable patient populations for breast conserving treatment in early stage invasive and non-invasive breast cancer.
- Describe the rationale and indications for regional nodal irradiation post mastectomy and lumpectomy for node positive breast cancer in the setting of adjuvant and neoadjuvant systemic therapy.
- Recognize radiation methods that maximize the therapeutic ratio by minimizing toxicity from breast conserving therapy in early stage disease and regional nodal irradiation in node positive disease.
