ASTRO ROCKS: The NCI Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08)

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Research-Oriented Career Knowledge and Support (ROCKS) web sessions equip you for a successful research-oriented career, one step at a time. This session featured the NCI Program Official(s) to provide an overview of the NCI Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08) mechanism, and active NCI K08 awardees shared what the keys are to successful application, project implementation, and mentor-mentee relationships in their K08 experiences.

Target Audience

This program is designed to meet the interest of early-stage clinician scientists interested in mentored research career development in basic, translational, and patient-oriented cancer focused research.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the relative success of Radiation Oncology focused applications for the NCI K08 award and general success rates.
  • Explain what reviewers are looking for during the application review.
  • Discuss keys to successful application, project implementation, and mentor-mentee relationships.
