2020 Annual Meeting - Patient Reported Outcomes: Incorporation into Your Work Flow

Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) are often minimized as bulky processes that require time for patients to fill out and impose further administrative burdens on providers. This is not necessarily so. We have had significant success with a modified Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS); it does not require much patient effort and is now integrated instantly into the electronic medical record using a tablet interface. This integration allows providers more insight into the patient's symptom burden and may allow for ease in supportive care consultation. This course will discuss state of the art integration of PROs into provider workflow, and further educate attendees about their value and potential. Several cases will be used to document how this can occur.

Target Audience

The activity is designed to meet the interests of radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgeons, nurses, and radiation oncology residents.

    1. Describe the relationship between patient perspectives on symptom burden and provider perspectives.
    2. Outline mechanisms to allow PROs to complement their clinical practice.
